History Students Write WWI Letters

Students in Mr. Caulkins' United States History classes completed an assignment called "Letters from the Trenches." They imagined that they were either Allied soldiers or Allied nurses in the midst of trench warfare during World War I in 1915. They wrote letters to their loved ones in the United States, describing the difficulties and realities of life in the trenches. Most of the letters described 'No-Man's-Land,' which was both an actual and metaphorical place during the War. The letters also brought a sense of humanity to war, showing that even in the midst of war, people are still hopeful for the future. The letters turned out great. Some of the students aged their letters to make them seem as if they were actually written 100 years ago today!
