UA Students Display Art at NOMA's "Art in Bloom"

Members of Ursuline’s National Art Honor Society celebrated the 200th anniversary of the Ursuline Sisters involvement in the Battle of New Orleans by spotlighting Our Lady of Prompt Succor and the Shrine in their artwork. Their art was on display March 18-21 during “Art in Bloom” at the New Orleans Museum of Art.

The students began by photographing the different architectural elements inside the Shrine. They then based their work off of their photographs. Acrylic paintings were done on old slate tiles from the roof of the Shrine and the vases and candle holders were created using ceramic slab technique.

ABOUT "ART IN BLOOM"
The annual springtime celebration includes educational programs and social events, with complex floral arrangements inspired by works of art in NOMA’s galleries as the centerpiece. Young artists are encouraged to celebrate New Orleans design in any medium of their choosing. They are not required to use floral material in their creations.
