UA Students Raise Money for EJGH Cancer Care at Annual Pink Game

On a special night every October, Ursuline volleyball players bench their navy uniforms and take center court in bright pink. Oversized banners with bold, pink script hang on the walls in the Marjory Barbier Ourso Athletic Center. The crowds, usually a sea of navy, instead show their support in various shades of – you guessed it – pink. It’s all for the annual Pink Game, just one of the many ways Ursuline students give back to the community.

Sweet treats, delicious snacks, and special Pink Game t-shirts are for sale, with the proceeds benefiting East Jefferson General Hospital Cancer Center.

The Pink Game, although originally started by other New Orleans area schools, took on a special meaning at Ursuline after Marta Bott, volleyball coach, teacher and administrator, was diagnosed with breast cancer. The first Ursuline Pink Game was in 2008, shortly before Coach Bott lost her battle with cancer. Since then, Ursuline students have raised over $50,000 in the fight against breast cancer.

This year, the Pink Game was held on October 22 against Academy of Our Lady. Read about the varsity game on Nola.com.
