First Graders Create Rain Clouds in ES Science Lab

First graders have been learning about weather in science, with a specific focus on the different types of clouds and the water cycle. In the new elementary school science lab, each student created her own rain cloud using shaving cream, water, and food coloring. The shaving cream represented the cumulus clouds until the girls used droppers to put blue water on top. Then they became cumulonimbus (rain) clouds! As the clouds got heavy with blue water, they saw the water cycle stage called precipitation. The blue rain began to seep down past the "clouds" and into the water! This experiment helped reinforce the stages of the water cycle and allowed the class to see what causes the rain to fall from the sky.
